// how this works

Built on research. With a dash of irreverence.

This quiz maps how you relate to Christmas across four dimensions: analytical depth, attachment to tradition, irreverent interrogation, and emotional resonance. It's not measuring your Christmas spirit — it's surfacing what draws you to the season at all. You might land in one result or feel split across two. Both are right.

01

Behavioral signals over beliefs

We're asking what you actually do (defend, research, question, feel) rather than what you think Christmas should be. Your revealed preference in real moments says more than any abstract value.

02

Christmas is contested

There is no neutral Christmas. It's wrapped up in religion, commerce, family obligation, nostalgia, and genuinely good feeling. This quiz doesn't pretend those tensions don't exist.

03

Results aren't prescriptive

You aren't Die Hard or soft sentimental because one is 'better.' You're one because it describes how you actually move through December.

Frequently asked

Is Die Hard actually a Christmas movie?

By the most literal definition: yes. The entire plot is triggered by a Christmas Eve party and depends on that specific timing. By cultural convention: it's debatable, which is the point. The argument itself has become Christmas tradition. What matters is whether the holiday setting is essential to the story or incidental. With Die Hard, it's essential. Whether that makes it 'Christmas enough' is up to you.

Where did Santa actually come from?

Saint Nicholas was a real person — a 4th-century Christian bishop from what's now Turkey, known for secret gift-giving. The modern Santa is a composite: Dutch gift-giver traditions, Victorian sentimentality, Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' and Coca-Cola marketing in the 1930s that standardized the red suit. He's both historical and completely invented. Both things are true.

Why do we have different Christmas traditions in different countries?

Christmas celebrates the same event but got absorbed into wildly different cultures. Japan celebrates Christmas as secular gift-giving. Sweden has St. Lucia Day traditions. Germany has Krampus. Mexico has Las Posadas. These aren't wrong versions — they're what happens when a global holiday meets local meaning. Geography, religious history, and sometimes deliberate invention all play a role.

What do I do if my result doesn't feel like me?

Most people land across two results, or feel like a result with caveats. If you got Die Hard Defender but actually hate analyzing things, you might be split between that and Soft Sentimental. The questions force choices, but real people are messier. Use the result as a starting point, not a box.
